Weight loss surgical procedures usually are not a remedy. . . but a tool

Weight loss surgeries are generally not a solution to excess weight. The truth is you simply enjoy a couple of years to enjoy the sole benefits of fat loss surgeries.

Long term fat loss is not guaranteed through fat reduction surgeries; rather it is actually about a change in outlook on life. Clearly weight loss procedures will not constitute a lifestyle modification.

Different kinds of fat reduction surgical procedures:

There are essentially three types of fat reduction surgery procedures;

(i) Restrictive weight loss procedure

(ii) Mal-absorptive weight loss surgery

(iii) Restrictive and mal-absorptive (Combined) fat reduction surgery.


Restrictive fat reduction surgeries are procedures that will reduce the size of the stomach such that you are forced to consume less by limiting the volume of food your stomach can hold at a time; thus the idea of restrictive surgery. Normally, this is done in two main ways, either applying staples or using a band.

Both techniques reduce the size of the effective stomach by building a tiny pouch out of the main stomach using either the band or staples.

Mal-absorptive fat reduction surgical procedures on the other hand do not restrict intake of food. It inhibits absorption of calories. The procedures entail eliminating a significant length of small intestines from absorbing the digested food.

The logic behind mal-absorptive procedures are that though one may eat a lot of calories, fewer calories are absorbed into the blood stream due to a significantly shorter small intestines, the means of nutrient and calorie absorption.

Combined fat loss surgeries are a cross of the other two procedures. It is now more common as it is observed to be more effective to limit both calorie intake and absorption.

It is important that weight loss surgeries is understood. They aren't a solution to excess weight; they likely will never be. The only cure for weight problems is a modificant of daily life to a healthful eating plan and increased physical activities.

In addition, much modern thought is looking at short sleep durations as a global cause of hormone imbalances that result in elevated food cravings.
